Messin' With Texas
Counter to all bumper sticker urging me not to, last week I messed with Texas.
Specifically, I asked Governor Rick Perry for the emails from his office for the prior several days. This is now big news in Texas and is now an AP wire story.
Here is how this devolped.

John, I am sending you a "Don't Mess With Texas" bumper sticker in the mail.
Texas government needs transparency and accountability to the taxpayers. It starts with the governor's office. Thank you for "Messin' With Texas"!

Looks like sour grapes in Texas and more wasteful spending on the horizon by the spoiled brat crowd.
Lets see. Perry won with 39%, more then twice the 2 independent candidates total. Can't win the normal way, so lets try to impeach him instead. Want higher taxes, try reviewing the cost of impeachment proceedings to the tax payer. This effort will get no where, except to spend LOTS citizens cash in the long run just to make a few crybabies happy and feel important. Tisk Tisk
I just read your story on this FOIA request from our illustrious governor and his staff and was amused and inspired to donate to your cause. I wish I had your computer knowledge to do what you have done with this simple constitutional right/request. I applaud you sir. By the way, I work with DHS, yes I know, it's and oxymoron and am also an Ex-supervisor that stepped down to fix/fight the system from within as a Union officer.

I do not understand how Ron Paul Republicans want copies of Perry's emails.
It seems to me that Ron Paul Republicans would agree that Perry keep his emails private.
John the world needs more people you you! The truth is in the details and it will set you free. You want to know and learn a little about Texas and how "Good ole' boy Lock'em up Capitalism" works then you are on the right path. Want some hard evidence about the millions of dollars Rick Perry has obtained to gain an office then follow the batch numbers of pharmaceutical coupon schemes concerning Merck and others. Correlate them with State Sponsored mental health providers (ie. Austin State Hospital), contact the Federal government and help them follow the money of kickback schemes. You might just find a permalink to Opiate drug dealing from Florida's "pain clinics" with Jeb Bush attached to the money trail. Don't be afraid to stop there, your can of worms will lead you all over the place because the corruption is soo deep and arrogant in this State that you'll most likely get overwhelmed. As a computer programer you know that the system admins are some of the most ethical people around and usually under-appreciated. When data flows just know that it is being cached, archived, tagged, and eternally stored somewhere. If you want the truth I can lead you exactly where you need to look...I'll monitor these posts to see if assistance is wanted...../
They are not Perry's emails. They are Texan emails because they are the emails of the Office of the Governor of Texas. They are not the personal emails of Rick Perry. They are the emails of the Govenor of Texas.
First, Destroying those emails is illegal. Even the Governor of Texas should have to obey the law.
Second, those emails are the record of how various policies were arrived at. Policies such as but not limited to:
1) Failing to appointing a prosecutor in the Texas Youth Commission Scandal when Ranger Brian Burzynski asked for one
2) How Cintras got 50 years of Texas tolls
3) The talking points provided by Merck to the staff on how to handle the auto-immune questions regarding Gardasil.
All of these questions are unanswerable, because the people's records, the emails, have been destroyed in order to prevent fishing escapades searching for answers. The loss of these records is the loss of history.
