The Milwaukee DA does not have the records

It is official. I spoke to James Martin, the records officer for the Milwaukee County DA. I had some nuanced questions on whether the custody referred to in his letter was physical or legal custody. Those have been answered.

The Milwaukee county DA's office does not have any form of custody of ANY records or materials from the Milwaukee City Elections Commission from the November 2, 2004 general election. This blanket statement includes both originals and copies of said materials.

So where are the election records the Milwaukee City Elections Commission is statutorily required to keep in their office? Have the records actually been taken anywhere?

The guidelines published by the Wisconsin Department of Justice categorized the records I am seeking as "must keep" records because of WI statute 7.24.

I am now pursuing these records (inspectors' reports and etc.) with a follow-up OR request for the correspondences between the City Election Commission and any law enforcement or prosecutorial agency.

We may know more this afternoon; the US Attorney's office is having a press conference at 1 to release their preliminary findings.

Update from WTMJ-AM (the Journal Sentinel initial story is here; nobody has the preliminary report posted on the web yet) -

- At least 4,500 more votes were cast in the Presidential election than voters recorded.

- More than 200 felons voted illegally.

- At least 100 instances of "suspected double-voting".

- At least 65 names filed by deputy registrars (that would be the GOTV gangs) were falsified by GOTV groups that paid per signature.

- Record-keeping so shoddy that the true number of illegal votes will likely never be known.

While there were no charges issued today, the investigation continues.

I have trouble with the statement:

Biskupic said there was no indication of a widespread conspiracy to commit voter fraud, or of any knowledge or involvement by poll workers or any other city officials.

Was is Project Vote if not a conspiracy to committ vote fraud. Jessica Tolklan won an eelcted post via fraud. I think she just moved on to registration fraud.

That troubles me as well. Let's see; there was the coordinated leftist GOTV fraud, the Democrat operatives who slashed the tires, and a city-wide abandonment of responsibility as far as recordkeeping is concerned (that, BTW, extends far beyond the Nov. 2004 election). Maybe Biskupic ought to be steered in the direction of this blog.

Then again, we're talking about the Journal Sentinel, which did not use a direct quote on that and came up with that line about 3 revisions into the story.
