Statutory Suggestion were Recieved

My letter of suggested statutory changes was recieved by the Special Committee on Election Law Review.

Here is a link to my document submitted by Janice Dunn.

One rant is about voting machinery with live internet conections via TCP/IP ports. Yes that is a "feature" provided by the big 3; Diebold, Sequoia and ES&S.

The second rant is about removable read-write media. See this Security Report from Leon County Florida. BTW, the Eagle optical-scanning system by ES&S (Vendor to Milwaukee County and programmed by Julietta Henry) has the same vulnerability as the Diebold system used in t Leon County (and currently used in Germantown, WI). The vulnerbility stems from the same source. There is executable code on the removable media (the PIC memory card) which can be altered by either swapping cards or changing the code on the card via the build-in NIC cards.

The third rant is the failure to secure the voting machine after the 5.84 testing is completed. At least use tamper-evident seals to insure the software tested is the software actually run on election day.

ES&S Withdraws Application for Certification

This is the email I recieved from D. Richard Rasmussen yesterday.

All:

I look forward to seeing everyone in Sun Prairie tomorrow, Wednesday July 27, 2005 to review the Populex Digital Paper Ballot voting system.

However, the demonstration set for Friday morning has been canceled. ES&S has formally withdrawn their application for approval of electronic equipment. They have informed me that they intend to re-apply at a later date. Their letter of withdrawal is posted on our website at: withdrawl letter.

I will be in Sun Prairie all day tomorrow, but would be happy to answer questions about this when we convene in the afternoon, thank you.

I actually cheered when I learned of the withdrawl of ES&S. Go riddance to bad rubbish.
